What Families Say About Dr Ismail
Verified reviews from TopDoctors – real families sharing their experience of Dr Ismail’s care.
First time we felt really heard
Dr Ismail was incredibly thorough and patient. She took the time to explain everything in terms we could understand, answered every question, and genuinely made our daughter feel comfortable. After months of feeling dismissed by other doctors, this was the first time we felt truly heard. She gave us a clear plan and we finally feel like we know where we stand.
She explains everything so clearly
We were really anxious about our son’s early puberty signs. Dr Ismail put us at ease straight away. She explained the tests, the timeline, and what to expect – all without rushing. We left feeling confident rather than worried.
Transformed our daughter’s diabetes care
We travelled from abroad specifically to see Dr Ismail about insulin pump technology. She set up the Hybrid Closed Loop system, trained us thoroughly, and has continued to support us remotely. Our daughter’s glucose control has improved dramatically.
Finally someone who took the time
Our teenager had been tired for months and our GP couldn’t find anything wrong. Dr Ismail ran thorough endocrine investigations, ruled out hormonal causes, and gave us practical guidance. Even though the tests came back normal, the reassurance was worth every penny.

When Something Doesn’t Seem Right With Your Child’s Health, the Worry Never Switches Off
You’ve noticed something – and you can’t ignore it
Perhaps your child isn’t growing the way their peers are. Maybe puberty seems to be arriving too early – or not at all. Your teenager is exhausted all the time and nobody can tell you why. Your child’s weight is climbing despite your best efforts. Or you’ve been told your child needs insulin pump technology that simply isn’t available where you live.
These aren’t small concerns. They sit with you at 2am, in the school pick-up queue, every time you measure their height against the door frame.
You’ve tried to get answers – but the system isn’t built for speed
Your GP may have said “let’s wait and see.” The NHS referral pathway could mean months of waiting for a specialist appointment – months during which your child is still growing, still developing, and you’re still worrying. You may have already seen a paediatrician who didn’t feel like the right fit, or who didn’t take the time to really listen.
For international families, the challenge is different but equally frustrating: you know the technology exists to transform your child’s diabetes management, but it’s not accessible in your home country. You need a specialist who understands both the clinical science and the practicalities of managing care across borders.
A consultant who takes the time to listen – and the expertise to act
Dr Dunia Ismail provides thorough, unhurried consultations at London Medical in Marylebone. She was trained at Great Ormond Street Hospital and has spent her career specialising in the exact endocrine disorders that are worrying you – growth disorders, early or delayed puberty, thyroid problems, childhood obesity, teenage fatigue, and advanced diabetes technology including Hybrid Closed Loop systems and Omnipod 5.
Every family she sees consistently says the same thing: she listens. She explains things clearly, in terms that make sense to both parents and children. She doesn’t rush. And she gives you a clear plan – whether that’s reassurance that everything is normal, targeted investigations, or a specialist treatment pathway – so you finally know where you stand.

From booking to follow-up, here’s how the process works – designed to be straightforward and stress-free.
Book your appointment
Use the form above or call our reception team. We aim to offer appointments within two weeks for non-urgent cases. A GP referral is helpful but not essential – parents are welcome to book directly, especially for reassurance consultations or second opinions.
Thorough initial assessment (45–60 minutes)
Dr Ismail takes a detailed medical and family history, reviews any previous results or growth charts, and conducts a focused clinical examination appropriate to your child’s age and symptoms. She explains her thinking at every step so you understand exactly what’s happening and why.
Targeted hormone investigations
If tests are needed, Dr Ismail will explain each one before proceeding – blood tests, hormone profiling, bone age assessment, ultrasound scans, or glucose monitoring depending on your child’s presentation. Most results are available within 2–3 working days.
Clear plan and follow-up
Whether the outcome is reassurance that everything is normal, a diagnosis with a treatment pathway, or a technology setup like an insulin pump, you’ll leave with a clear written summary. Follow-up is typically at 4–6 weeks, with longer intervals for stable conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a GP referral to book?
A GP referral is helpful for comprehensive medical records and is often required by insurance companies, but you can book directly if you’re self-funding and seeking reassurance or a second opinion. We recommend discussing concerns with your GP first when possible, as this supports integrated care.
How much does a consultation cost?
We provide transparent pricing upfront with no hidden fees. Initial consultation fees cover Dr Ismail’s time, basic measurements, and preliminary assessment. Additional diagnostic tests are priced separately and always discussed with you before proceeding. We provide itemised invoices for both insured and self-funding patients.
Which tests might my child need?
This depends entirely on your child’s symptoms. Common investigations include thyroid function tests, growth hormone assessment, bone age X-rays, glucose monitoring, vitamin D levels, and sex hormone profiling. We explain the rationale for every test and obtain your consent before proceeding. Most blood tests can be done during or immediately after your consultation.
How quickly will we get results?
Most routine blood test results are available within 2–3 working days. Specialised hormone tests may take 1–2 weeks. We contact you promptly once results are available to arrange a follow-up appointment.
Can international families access your services?
Absolutely. Our London Medical location in Marylebone is our primary centre for international patients, particularly families seeking advanced diabetes technology like Hybrid Closed Loop systems that may not be available in their home country. Dr Ismail offers consultations in English, Italian, and in conversational Arabic, French, and Spanish, and can coordinate ongoing care remotely where appropriate.
What makes Kids Endocrinology different?

Her 360-degree communication model, multilingual capabilities, and genuine commitment to hearing parental concerns set this practice apart. She’s a senior consultant with time to listen, not a junior doctor rushing through appointments.

Advanced Diabetes Technology and Artificial Pancreas Systems

Dr. Ismail specialises in initiating and managing all commercially available Hybrid Closed-Loop (HCL) systems, often called “Artificial Pancreas” technology. We have extensive experience with insulin pumps including the Omnipod 5, alongside the latest continuous glucose sensors that transform diabetes management.
For families navigating Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes, our goal is clear: to use technology to optimise blood glucose control and restore a normal quality of life. Our hospital partnerships in London, Brighton, and Surrey ensure seamless access to the diagnostic equipment and multidisciplinary teams needed for complex diabetes care.
The exact location for treatment may vary depending on your needs. Contact us for more information.
Childhood Obesity and Metabolic Health Assessment
Childhood obesity represents one of the most rapidly evolving fields in paediatric endocrinology, with new weight-loss medications beginning to launch for patients as young as 12yr old. We offer tailored assessments for insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome, helping children achieve healthier futures through evidence-based treatment plans.
Our approach combines detailed metabolic testing with practical lifestyle guidance, always delivered in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. We work closely with dietitians, psychologists, and physiotherapists when needed, ensuring a truly holistic approach to your child’s metabolic health.
Growth Disorders and Short Stature Evaluation
Concerns about child growth are among the most common reasons families seek paediatric endocrinology expertise. Whether you’ve noticed your child is significantly shorter than peers, growing more slowly than expected, or experiencing growth delay, we provide thorough assessment to exclude medical causes and offer peace of mind.
Our growth services include detailed auxology (growth measurement), bone age assessment, growth hormone stimulation tests when appropriate, and genetic screening for growth disorders. We use state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities to ensure rapid results and clear treatment pathways. Some children may require growth hormone therapy if clinical criteria are met. In these cases we provide comprehensive diagnostic investigations and reports with detailed handover to the NHS teams who are able to provide free growth hormone treatment for these eligible children so that the family can get full support throughout the treatment journey and delays are avoided.
Puberty Concerns: Early, Delayed and Atypical Development
The timing and progression of puberty can be a source of significant anxiety for families. Whether your concern is precocious puberty (early development), delayed puberty, or atypical patterns of sexual maturation, our consultant provides expert evaluation and management. We conduct comprehensive assessments including hormone profiling, bone age determination, and pelvic ultrasound scans when indicated.
Adolescent Holistic Wellbeing and Chronic Fatigue Investigation
Many teenagers today struggle with persistent tiredness – what clinicians call “Tired All The Time” or TATT. While fatigue has many potential causes, our job as paediatric endocrinologists is to perform detailed endocrine investigations to exclude medical causes of chronic fatigue. We screen for thyroid disorders, adrenal insufficiency, and other hormonal conditions. We are able to direct care to the right services applying principles of holistic care, as we look after the child and not the symptom.
Thyroid Disorders in Children and Adolescents
Thyroid conditions affect children differently than adults, requiring specialised paediatric expertise. We provide rapid diagnostics for hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules, and autoimmune thyroid disease. Our service includes thyroid ultrasound scans, comprehensive thyroid function tests, and antibody screening.
Menstrual Health and PCOS in Adolescent Girls
Adolescent girls specialising in irregular periods, absent menstruation, or symptoms suggestive of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) require specialised endocrine assessment. We investigate hormone disorders that affect menstrual health, including conditions affecting the ovaries, pituitary gland, and adrenal glands. Our approach combines hormonal profiling with pelvic ultrasound and metabolic screening, ensuring we identify and treat the underlying cause. For girls with PCOS, we provide management strategies addressing insulin resistance, metabolic health, and weight management if necessary.
Conditions We Diagnose and Treat
Our consultant paediatric endocrinologist has expertise across the full range of paediatric endocrinology conditions. We can diagnose and manage even the rarest hormonal disorders, drawing on years of experience at leading children’s hospitals.
Common conditions we diagnose and treat (when appropriate) include Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, growth hormone deficiency, constitutional delay of growth and puberty, precocious puberty, delayed puberty, hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroiditis, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, adrenal insufficiency, Cushing’s syndrome, disorders of sexual development, PCOS in adolescents, obesity and metabolic syndrome, vitamin D deficiency, hypoglycaemia, calcium and bone disorders, pituitary conditions including hypopituitarism and pituitary tumours, Turner syndrome, and a wide range of other genetic conditions affecting growth and hormones. Occasionally these types of diagnosis and treatments require referral to other specialists which we are happy to arrange on your behalf
We also provide specialised care for children with complex conditions requiring multidisciplinary input, working alongside cardiologists, nephrologists, gastroenterologists, and other specialists such as dieticians and psychologists when your child’s care demands integrated expertise.
Our 360-Degree Communication Approach
At Kids Endocrinology, we’ve built our practice on a different philosophy. Too often, parents tell us they’ve felt their concerns were dismissed or that previous healthcare encounters left them with more questions than answers. Dr. Ismail is widely recognised as a “good listener” who takes genuine time with every family.
Our 360-degree holistic communication model means we treat your child as a whole individual, focusing on holistic wellbeing rather than viewing them through the narrow lens of a single medical symptom. We listen carefully to parental concerns, take detailed family histories, and ensure you understand every aspect of your child’s diagnosis and treatment options.
As one verified patient review states: “First time we felt really heard… she was very attentive and we could tell she truly cares.” This commitment to thorough communication extends beyond the consultation room. We provide comprehensive appointment summaries, clear medication instructions, and remain accessible for follow-up questions as your child’s care progresses.

Getting Started: How to Book Your Appointment
We’ve designed our appointment process to be as straightforward as possible, recognising that families seek private healthcare for rapid access and flexibility. While we recommend obtaining a GP referral for comprehensive medical records and to support continuity of care, parents are welcome to book directly with us for reassurance consultations or to double-check developmental milestones. Giving a reason for your appointment request helps to streamline the process for you and your child and makes sure Dr Ismail is able to recommend the correct approach.
For insured patients, we work with all major private healthcare providers. Please contact your insurance company to obtain pre-authorisation before your appointment to ensure smooth claims processing. We can provide the necessary codes and clinical information to support your authorisation request.
Self-funding families are warmly welcomed. We provide transparent pricing information upfront, with no hidden fees. Initial consultation fees cover Dr. Ismail’s time, basic anthropometry, and preliminary assessment and hospital fees where required. Additional diagnostic tests, scans, or specialised investigations are priced separately and will always be discussed with you before proceeding.
To book your appointment or to discuss whether paediatric endocrinology services are right for your child, please contact our friendly reception and booking teams at the different locations depending where you chose to book. We aim to offer appointment slots within two weeks for non-urgent cases, and can provide faster consultations when clinical need demands rapid assessment.
What to Expect at Your First Consultation
First appointments typically last 45 minutes, allowing time for thorough assessment without rushing. Dr. Ismail will take a detailed medical history, ask about your specific concerns, review growth charts with available measures, and conduct a focused clinical examination appropriate to your child’s age and symptoms.
For growth and puberty assessments, we perform careful measurements of height, weight, and body proportions. For diabetes technology consultations, we review current glucose control data and discuss the latest systems that might benefit your child. For thyroid or general endocrine concerns, we explain which diagnostic tests are needed and why.
We encourage parents to bring any previous medical records, growth charts, blood test results, or scan reports from other healthcare providers. This information helps us build a complete picture and avoid repeating unnecessary investigations. Please also prepare a list of current medications, vitamins, and supplements your child takes.
Children and young people are encouraged to participate in the consultation at a level appropriate to their age and understanding. For teenagers, we offer the option of speaking with Dr. Ismail privately for part of the appointment, respecting their growing autonomy while ensuring parents remain fully informed about care decisions.
Supporting Information for Parents
We recognise that navigating your child’s endocrine health can feel overwhelming. Our website provides detailed information about common conditions, treatment options, and what to expect from specialist care. We’ve developed parent-friendly resources explaining hormone disorders in plain English, avoiding medical jargon wherever possible.
For families awaiting appointments, we recommend keeping a symptom diary noting concerns about growth, energy levels, mood changes, or other relevant observations. Photographs showing physical changes over time can be particularly helpful for puberty and growth assessments. Bringing school reports mentioning concentration difficulties or fatigue helps us understand the full impact of potential endocrine conditions.
Other Useful Resources
We maintain strong links with patient support organisations including the Child Growth Foundation, Diabetes UK, the Turner Syndrome Support Society, and the Pituitary Foundation. These organisations provide valuable peer support and information resources that complement clinical care.
Our Commitment to Excellence
Kids Endocrinology operates according to the highest clinical and ethical standards. Dr. Ismail maintains active NHS consultant responsibilities alongside private practice, ensuring skills remain current across the full case-mix of paediatric endocrinology. Regular participation in national specialist meetings, continuing medical education, and ongoing reflection on current practice keeps our practice at the cutting edge.
We audit our clinical outcomes, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and continuously seek patient feedback to enhance our service. Every child and family contributes to our learning, helping us refine our approach and deliver better care to future patients.
Our commitment extends to safeguarding and child protection. We maintain up-to-date training in recognising and responding to welfare concerns, working within the robust governance frameworks expected of any consultant paediatrician practising in the UK. Your child’s safety and wellbeing are paramount in everything we do.
Treating Young People and Transitional Endocrinology
While our primary focus remains on children and adolescents up to age 19, we recognise that many hormonal conditions diagnosed in childhood continue into adult life. We support smooth transitions to adult endocrinology services, providing detailed handover information and helping young people understand their ongoing care needs.
For young women with childhood-onset conditions like Turner syndrome, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, or growth hormone deficiency, PCOS we facilitate transition to appropriate adult specialists with expertise in these areas. We also coordinate with gynaecologists and fertility specialists when appropriate, ensuring young women receive comprehensive reproductive health guidance as they move into adult services.
While treating women is not our core service, we support transitional care until appropriate adult services are established, recognising that the best outcomes come from continuity and coordinated handover rather than abrupt service transitions at arbitrary age cutoffs.
Working with Cromwell Hospital, Portland Hospital Spire Healthcare and Other Hospital Partners
In addition to our core locations, we maintain collaborative relationships with other private healthcare facilities when specific capabilities or geographical convenience serve patient needs. Our flexible approach to hospital partnerships means we can arrange investigations at Spire Healthcare facilities, the Cromwell Hospital, or other London private hospitals when this benefits your family. These partnerships ensure access to specialised imaging, surgical expertise when needed, and inpatient facilities for children requiring admission for diagnostic tests or treatment initiation. We remain your child’s endocrinology consultant throughout, providing continuity regardless of where specific aspects of care are delivered.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a GP referral to book an appointment?
While a GP referral is helpful for comprehensive medical records and often required by insurance companies, you can book directly with us if you’re self-funding and seeking reassurance or a second opinion. We recommend discussing concerns with your GP first when possible, as this supports integrated care and may identify issues we can address together. We also recommend you give a thorough explanation of why you are self referring in order to streamline the process.
Which tests might my child need?
The specific tests required depend entirely on your child’s symptoms and clinical findings. Common investigations include thyroid function tests, growth hormone assessment, bone age X-rays, glucose monitoring, vitamin D levels, and sex hormone profiling. We explain the rationale for every test and obtain your consent before proceeding. Some blood tests can be performed immediately after your consultation at all our locations. You may be required to make another appointment for a blood test when appropriate as some hormonal tests need to be taken at a specific time of the day to be interpreted correctly. In these cases the wait for the blood test is usually of a couple of days to a week maximum.
How quickly will we receive results and a treatment plan?
Most routine blood test results are available within a few days. More specialised hormone tests may take 1-2 weeks. A follow-up appointment is booked with Dr Ismail to go through results thoroughly and make correct management plans appropriate for your child as required. Treatment plans are discussed thoroughly, ensuring you understand all options and feel confident in the chosen approach.
Does Kids Endocrinology work with NHS services?
Dr. Ismail has worked in the NHS for 18 years, 14 of which as a consultant, therefore has close working relationships with many NHS paediatric services. We provide detailed clinic letters to your GP and NHS consultants, supporting coordinated care across public and private sectors. If your child’s condition requires NHS-funded treatments or specialist facilities only available through the NHS, we facilitate appropriate referrals while continuing to provide private follow-up care if appropriate.
What makes Kids Endocrinology different from other private services?
Our service combines elite clinical expertise from Great Ormond Street Hospital and international training with the personal touch often missing in busy practices. As a paediatrician specialising exclusively on paediatric diabetes and endocrinology rather than general paediatrics, Dr. Ismail brings depth of expertise in hormonal conditions. Our 360-degree communication model, multilingual capabilities, multicultural background, and genuine commitment to hearing parental concerns set us apart. We’re a senior consultant with time to listen, not a junior doctor rushing through appointments.
