Insurance & Funding

Recognised by all the major UK insurers

Dr Ismail’s consultations are recognised by every major private health insurer. Cover can vary from one policy to the next, so it is always worth a quick call to your insurer before you book.

Self-funding families are warmly welcomed. Many families, including those travelling from overseas, choose to self-fund for speed and continuity of care. We agree clear, transparent pricing with you before your appointment and provide an itemised invoice for every consultation. Insured families: please check whether your policy covers the type of consultation your child needs, and arrange pre-authorisation with your insurer before your appointment.

We understand what you’re going through

When something about your child does not feel right, you deserve real answers

You know your child best. If their growth, puberty, weight, energy or hormones have started to worry you, you should not have to wait months or wonder alone.

The worry

You have noticed something, and you cannot get a clear answer

Perhaps your child is much shorter than their friends, or puberty has arrived early or seems delayed. Perhaps a once lively teenager is exhausted all the time, or there are concerns about weight, thyroid, periods or blood sugar.

Whatever it is, you have spotted a change that does not feel right, and the uncertainty quietly sits with you every single day.

The frustration

You have asked for help before, but felt brushed aside

Many parents tell us they raised their worries early and were told to simply wait and see. NHS specialist clinics have limited capacity and long waiting lists, so families can be left in limbo for months while the worry grows.

And the question that keeps you awake stays unanswered. Could something medical be behind this, a hormone imbalance, a thyroid problem or another underlying cause that nobody has properly checked?

The way forward

A specialist who listens, checks properly and gives you a real plan

Dr Dunia Ismail gives families the unhurried, expert attention this deserves. In a calm 45 minute consultation she reviews your child’s growth and full history, looks carefully for any underlying hormonal or medical cause, and explains what she finds in plain language.

Together you agree a clear, practical plan built around your child. You leave with answers, sensible next steps and the reassurance of knowing exactly what is going on.

How it works

Your child's care journey, in four simple steps

From your first enquiry to ongoing support, you will always know what happens next. No jargon, no uncertainty and no pressure at any stage.

1
Usually seen within 2 weeks

Request your appointment

Tell us about your child using the form above, or call the team directly. A GP referral is helpful for your child's records and is often needed by insurers, but it is not essential. You are welcome to book a private appointment yourself, for a first opinion or for reassurance.

2
45 minutes with Dr Ismail

Your initial consultation

In an unhurried appointment, Dr Ismail reviews your child's growth charts, development and full medical and family history, then carries out a gentle, child-friendly examination. She listens to your concerns, and to your child, and explains her thinking as she goes.

3
Nothing happens without your agreement

Any tests, clearly explained first

If investigations are needed, such as blood tests, a bone age X-ray or a dynamic hormone test, Dr Ismail explains exactly why and what each one involves before anything goes ahead. Tests are arranged at a clinic that is convenient for your family, and billed transparently.

4
Specialist care from infancy to age 19

Your diagnosis, plan and ongoing support

At a follow-up, usually 4 to 6 weeks later (sometimes much sooner for test results with a short turnaround), Dr Ismail explains the results in plain language and agrees a clear, practical plan with you. She reviews your child as they grow, keeps your GP informed, and supports a smooth move towards adult services when the time is right.

Not sure where to begin? Dr Ismail's team will gently guide you through every step.

Questions parents ask

Your questions about paediatric endocrinology care, answered

A few of the things families most often ask before they book. If your question is not here, please get in touch and we will be glad to help.

For most enquiries we can usually offer a private appointment within about two weeks, and sooner where a child needs to be seen quickly. You are not left waiting for months as you might be on a standard NHS pathway. If your enquiry is urgent, please tell us when you get in touch and we will do our best to help.
A GP referral is helpful for your child's medical records and is usually required if you plan to claim through private health insurance. It is not essential for self-funding families, so you are welcome to book directly, for a first opinion or for reassurance. With your permission, Dr Ismail will send a summary to your GP afterwards to support joined-up care.
A paediatric endocrinologist is a children's doctor who specialises in hormones and growth. Dr Ismail sees children for short stature and growth concerns, early or delayed puberty, thyroid conditions, weight and obesity, type 1 and type 2 diabetes including insulin pump technology, persistent tiredness, and menstrual irregularities such as PCOS. If you are not sure whether your concern fits, please get in touch and we will gladly advise.
The initial consultation lasts 45 minutes and is never rushed. Dr Ismail reviews your child's growth charts, development and family history, carries out a gentle examination, and talks through your concerns with both you and your child. You leave with a clear explanation and, where helpful, a diagnostic plan and practical next steps.
It helps to bring your child's personal child health record, known as the Red Book, along with any previous growth measurements from school or your GP, a list of current medications or supplements, and copies of any earlier blood tests, scans or genetic reports. If you cannot find everything, please do not worry, just bring what you have.
All consultation fees are agreed with you in writing before you book, with no hidden costs. Dr Ismail is recognised by all the major insurers, including Bupa, AXA, Aviva, Vitality, WPA and Cigna, though it is worth checking your own policy and arranging pre-authorisation first. Any tests are arranged and billed separately by the clinic or laboratory, always with your agreement.
Dr Ismail cares for children and young people from infancy through to age 19. As your child approaches adulthood, she supports a calm, well-prepared transition, helping them gradually take responsibility for their own health and, where needed, arranging a smooth handover to adult services.
Yes. Dr Ismail's London clinic regularly cares for families travelling from overseas, including those seeking advanced diabetes technology. Consultations are available in English and Italian, which is Dr Ismail's mother tongue, and she also speaks conversational Arabic, French and Spanish. Please mention your language preference when you enquire.
The next step

Your child deserves answers, and you deserve peace of mind

Book a private consultation with Dr Dunia Ismail and take the first calm, confident step towards understanding your child's growth, hormones and health.
